Triform Fluid Cell Hydroforming

Fluid Cell Sheet Hydroforming

Fluid Cell sheet hydroforming creates parts with a single unmated tool, using the downward force of the pressurized bladder, or diaphragm. The sheet material, or blank, is placed atop a stationary form block, which rests unsecured on the lower platen or working surface. The diaphragm is then pressurized with hydraulic fluid, expanding as it exerts equal pressure on every point inside the chamber. Multiple parts can be run in a single Fluid Cell cycle, as long as the tools and blanks fit within the forming area – including parts of different sizes.

Triform Fluid Cell presses can be thought of as high-performance alternatives to traditional solid-block rubber pad forming. Pad forming typically applies pressure of ~1,000 – 1,500 PSI on the part, Triform sheet hydroforming presses offer 5,000 – 10,000 PSI on the part, depending on the particular model. And, unlike traditional pad forming, which varies pressure across the surface of the part, Triform presses place uniform pressure on every square inch of the part’s surface. The result is reduced material wrinkling, increased definition, and often it eliminates the need for manual hand-finishing.
